Grand Cayman is incredibly family-friendly, with calm beaches, easy logistics, and plenty to do with little ones, but choosing the right place to stay can make or break your trip.

Best areas to stay in Grand Cayman with kids

Seven Mile Beach

Seven Mile Beach is the most popular tourism area in Grand Cayman. This area offers the highest concentration of Grand Cayman family resorts and beachfront condos, making it ideal for both first-time and returning visitors. I always feel the need to caveat that while it’s the most popular, it never feels overcrowded or too busy. That’s one of the most special things about vacationing in Grand Cayman and why it’s so great for families. 

The Seven Mile Beach area is very walkable, so whether you choose the beach path or along West Bay road, it’s very convenient to walk anywhere you need to go. We typically rent a car while we’re there for longer distances, but can walk to plenty of dining and shopping options. 

Seven Mile Beach itself is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and definitely a dream to stay on. The calm, shallow waters make Seven Mile Beach one of the best beaches in Grand Cayman for young children.

Overall, Seven Mile Beach is the best area to stay if you’re a first-time visitor to Grand Cayman, looking for a resort-style vacation, or, like us, simply just want convenience right on an incredible beach.

What’s best for families with little kids? Convenience, calm beach and plenty of accommodation options of all kinds.  

West Bay/East End

West Bay and East End are two other, separate, areas of Grand Cayman that offer lodging options. I’m putting them together, because the pros and cons of choosing to stay in one of them are similar. 

Both areas feature excellent Grand Cayman vacation rentals and condo-style properties perfect for families seeking a quiet beach vacation. East End has a few hotels, but not nearly as many as you’ll find along Seven Mile Beach. Both areas also have great restaurants, but aren’t as convenient and walkable, so expect that you’ll drive if you need to go anywhere. 

Both West Bay and East End are quieter than Seven Mile Beach, so are the perfect locations if you’re wanting to truly just spend time with family and enjoy a calm and laid back trip. 

What’s best for families with little kids? Quiet vibes, lots of condo-style accommodations, great beaches

Georgetown

Georgetown is the capital and main city in Grand Cayman. It’s where the cruise ships dock and there are lots of shopping and dining options, which are in many cases, the most touristy you’ll find on the island. 

There are several accommodation options in Georgetown, but be aware that while it sits near Seven Mile Beach, you won’t be getting the same beach experience in this part of the island. It’s a great spot to stay for shorter vacations, or divers, but I honestly wouldn’t recommend staying in this part of Grand Cayman if you’re planning a vacation with little kids.

What’s best for families with little kids? If you’re looking for a beach-focused vacation, I wouldn’t recommend staying in Georgetown with little kids as you’ll need to drive to the best beaches. 

Staying at a family-friendly hotel in Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman hotels with kids offer varying levels of amenities. Family resorts like the Ritz Carlton and Kimpton Seafire provide the most comprehensive facilities. Here’s a few helpful tips to help you determine if a hotel is right for your family.

Pros

• On-site restaurants means less cooking with kids. Some of our favorites are Coccoloba at the Kimpton Seafire and the Tortuga Beach Grill and Bar at The Westin. Most restaurants offer great kids menus and are available to non-hotel guests too. 
• Pools and beach access. All of the major hotels in Grand Cayman have great pools (especially at larger resorts like the Ritz Carlton and Kimpton). And major Seven Mile Beach hotels like The Westin and other family resorts provide direct access to the island’s calmest waters.
• Daily housekeeping. This is a huge win with toddlers on any vacation, but especially beach vacations because there is just SO much sand!

Cons

• Smaller rooms. If you opt for a standard sized room, you won’t have a ton of space to spread out. If you’re not planning to be in the room very much (as you shouldn’t in such a great location!), this shouldn’t matter too much. 
• Higher nightly rates. Honestly, the hotel rates in Grand Cayman are very pricey. If you’re traveling during the high season, the per night rate can often be close to $1,000 at the top hotels. 
• Limited kitchen access. Some of the hotels offer small kitchenettes, but many do not, so you’ll have to rely on restaurants exclusively for dining. 

Overall, hotels in Grand Cayman are best for these types of travelers:

• Traveling with younger kids and don’t need much personal space
• If you’re staying for a shorter duration
• If you value convenience over space

Staying in a condo or vacation rental with kids in Grand Cayman

We typically stay in a condo when we visit Grand Cayman – there are tons of options all over the island to choose from! Grand Cayman condo rentals and vacation rentals for families provide more space and flexibility, especially for longer stays. Here are a few helpful tips to determine if staying in a condo is right for your family. 

Pros

• Separate bedrooms. We typically get a two bedroom condo, which is wonderful both for naptime and bedtime. We don’t need to be too quiet when our son is asleep and can enjoy our vacation more as a result.
• Full kitchens for snacks and breakfasts. Many beachfront condos in Grand Cayman include fully equipped kitchens, which are particularly valuable for families with toddlers who eat on different schedules. Having a kitchen is helpful both in terms of convenience and saving some money. Right when we arrive, we do a grocery run at either Fosters or Kirk Market and stock up on breakfast, lunch and snack options. We typically go out for dinner most nights. 
• Often beachfront at a lower cost than resorts. There are a lot of condo options in Grand Cayman that you can rent for a lower cost than the hotels, and still be right on the best beaches.
• Range of sizing options. You can find condos or other vacation rentals anywhere from one bedroom to homes that can accommodate multigenerational family trips. Some larger vacation rentals may even have their own pools and other amenities. 

Cons

• Fewer amenities than hotels: Most condos have a pool, but not many additional amenities beyond that. Some have tennis courts, fitness centers or other one-off amenities, but know that choosing the condo option means you won’t get the bells and whistles of the resorts. 
• Limited on-site dining: Most condos do not offer on-site dining. There are a few exceptions, like The Caribbean Club with on-site restaurant, Luca, but mostly you will need to dine off property. This is not a problem though as Grand Cayman is known for its amazing restaurants!
• May not be daily housekeeping. This varies by property, but certain properties may either offer some housekeeping during your stay or none at all. Make sure to check the listing for the property you’re looking at to understand what will be included.  

Overall, condos in Grand Cayman are best for these types of travelers:

• Families staying 5+ nights
• Parents who want space and flexibility
• Kids who nap or go to bed early
• Families traveling with grandparents or other family members
