How to Do Grand Cayman on a Budget

Grand Cayman on a budget. Seven Mile Beach from under an Australian pine tree.

Grand Cayman is known as a higher-end destination with luxury hotels and restaurants. We’ve visited Cayman tons of times and I promise we do not have a gigantic budget for vacations. So if you’re looking to travel to Grand Cayman on a budget, here are a few tips to save some money planning your trip and once you arrive.

If I want to travel to grand cayman on a budget, Should I book a Hotel or condo?

Most of the resorts in Grand Cayman are incredible with great service and amenities, but many also come with a very high price point. We prefer to trade off some of the amenities that a hotel offers for the extra space of a condo. Most condos are more affordable than the hotels; however, there are some ultra luxury condos too. We stay at Harbour Heights, which we absolutely love. It’s a great option if you’re looking to travel to Grand Cayman on a budget because it’s on a really nice part of Seven Mile Beach, has a pool, and is in a convenient location to restaurants and shopping along Seven Mile Beach.

If i want to travel to grand cayman on a budget, when should i travel?

As with most of the Caribbean, the high-season for Grand Cayman is during the winter, and the price of hotels reflect it. We typically visit in early- to mid-April. Rates tend to decrease after April 15, and weather in the northern US can still be pretty miserable. The lower rates stay in place until fall, but keep in mind summer is hurricane season. If you travel during this time, be prepared for your travel to possibly be disrupted due to weather.

if i want to travel to grand cayman on a budget, what part of the island should i stay in?

Seven Mile Beach is typically the most expensive area because it is home to lots of restaurants, attractions and shopping. We prefer to stay on Seven Mile Beach for these reasons and find an option that suits our budget. However, if you’re looking to travel to Grand Cayman on a budget, there are other areas on the island that you may want to consider if you’re okay staying in a quieter spot.

  • North Side: This is home to Rum Point, which has a great bar/restaurant with a beach bbq on Tuesday nights. There are a ton of great condo rental options on this part of the island.
